Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Firewire x Slater Designs Cymatic Surfboard

by Brian Brown September 11, 2018

In this episode Firewire sends me down two stock 5’3” Slater Design "Cymatic" surfboards designed by Tomo for review. The Cymatic surfs like a HPSB and is very responsive with its short but straight outline offering excellent speed down the line and vertical surfing in the pocket. This board excels in 2-6’ surf and challenged me to test my rail game in 6-8’ surf.

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Sharp Eye Modern 2 Surfboard

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Sharp Eye Modern 2 Surfboard

by Brian Brown August 10, 2018

The SharpEye Modern 2 surfboard is such a sick little board. I tested it in 1-4' surf as a Thruster and as a Twin Fin with a small trailer. It is loaded with volume for great paddling and extremely fast down the line. It also has a pulled in tail and a bit of tail rocker to jam it in the pocket like a performance board.

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Sharp Eye HT2 Surfboard

by Brian Brown August 10, 2018

In this episode I review a custom HT2 in (Holy Toledo 2) E2 Technology by Sharpeye Surfboards. The HT2 is the same model that Filipe Toledo won the 2017 Hurley Pro at Trestles with slight differences according to Marcio Zouvi. With Filipe’s win at the Hurley event I was pretty excited to give this board a go at Lower Trestles.

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Channel Islands Rocket Wide Surfboard

by Brian Brown July 17, 2018

In this episode I review the “Rocket Wide” which is the latest edition of small wave Grovelers in the CI line up of surfboards. I ordered two stock 5’5” x 18 ¾ x 2 5/16 Liters 25.8 in the new CI Spine-Tek construction… one board with Futures Fin boxes and the other has FCSII. I test both of these boards in perfect 1-2’ and 3-4’ surf to find the range that best suits this model. I found the Rocket Wide to be very fast, responsive, and most of all it has good flow in...

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Channel Islands Fever Surfboard

by Brian Brown July 16, 2018

The Fever is a new signature High Performance Shortboard by pro surfer Pat Gudauskas and shaper Mike Andrews. Noel Salas gets two custom boards one in his Groveler DIMS and the other in his High Performance DIMS. The 5'7" has incredible speed in 2-3 foot surf. On paper the Fever would seem to have to much overall rocker to be a good Groveler but to Noel's surprise it is his new favorite CI board to date. Fin selection is always important for small waves and the Bla...

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Channel Islands OG Flyer Surfboard

by Brian Brown July 16, 2018

This classic design from 20 years ago is still relevant to todays surfing. The original design is still intact they just modernized it by making it a little shorter but still keeping the original design. By doing this a classic has come back strong with the ability to perform in everyday conditions ranging from 2-6' surf. We got great waves and weather for this review and I got to test the OG Flyer in suggested wave sizes and the board delivered the goods. It felt ...

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Channel Islands Biscuit Bonzer Surfboard

by Brian Brown July 15, 2018

The Biscuit Bonzer is a small wave board and with the large single fin you have unlimited options on fin placement. With the low entry and exit rocker, Bonzer concaves and 5 fin setup makes these little boards so much fun to ride says Salas. Noel talks about why he went custom on these two Biscuit Bonzers. The stock dimensions on the Channel Islands website fit Noel at a 5’2” with 29 liters of volume. He went with two custom boards one at 5’4” and the other at 5’5”...

Surf 'n Show Surfboard Reviews: Channel Islands Bonzer 3D Surfboard

by Brian Brown July 15, 2018

In this show I review the CI Bonzer 3D. This model is a collaboration between Channel Islands and the Campbell Brothers. I thoroughly test this small wave board in perfect 2-4' surf. This Bonzer 3D is very fast and draws very unique lines. After I go through the attributes of this board I begin comparing the lines it draws compared to the Bonzer 5 Shelter and a regular Thruster. Each board draws different lines and you can see that as I break it down while you watc...
