David Farina's surfboards are designed for St. Augustine surf and to work in the ocean's ever-changing conditions. He calls this model the "Mid Length Crisis" for reasons we all go through, and that is the difficulty on deciding what board to ride. This design will work in any condition, ride it as a single fin in waves up to rib high, then throw in a set of keel fins to ride it as a twin in chest high plus surf. Changing the fin configuration is like getting multiple boards in one.
My name is David Farina and I began shaping boards in my parent's garage in 1987 My father and I started by making a mess in the front yard, and after unfruitful searches trying to find a teacher we settled on trial and error. Eventually (1989 the year I consider properly starting to learn the art) I was fortunate enough to meet Mike Whisnant the 3x east coast shaping champion and my mentor. I've worked under various labels over the years from Alternative Surfboards, Zion Surf Company and currently run the custom board building division of Shredseason.com. I've been lucky enough to learn from craftsmen such as Pat Madden and John Lucas and the education has not stopped there. With over 4000 boards under my belt I've formulated a teaching method that allows people to properly create their own board in a professional environment without all the frustrations that comes with trying something for the first time.
